A prestigious research institution in Oslo is seeking a Researcher to contribute to an ERC-funded project on Formal Semantics. The role requires a PhD or equivalent, along with a strong research proposal. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in related fields and will be involved in a dynamic research environment focused on innovative exploration in philosophy and logic. The position is available for a duration of 2 years with a competitive salary range.
A temporary position as Researcher (SKO 11009) is available at the Department of Philosophy, History of Arts and Ideas, and Classics, University of Oslo. The researcher position is funded by the European Research Council and is associated with the ERC Advanced Grant project Construction in the Formal Sciences (C-FORS).
We seek a candidate who can contribute to Work Package 2: Formal Semantics and to the project as a whole, based on expertise in formal semantics and/or areas of logic or philosophy that are relevant to formal semantics.
Applicants are expected to submit a research proposal that contributes to the C-FORS research project. Relevant topics might include (but are not limited to): intensional entities (e.g. propositions, properties, relations, and groups) in formal semantics, logic, or metaphysics; nominalization and group formation; hyperintensionality in semantics; intensional and hyperintensional paradoxes (such as the Russell-Myhill paradox).
The position is available for a period of 2 years. The successful candidate is expected to become part of the research environment/network of the department and contribute to its development.
The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved. In exceptional cases, we can consider applications from candidates who do not yet have a PhD but who are close to completing one. If so, the degree must be awarded by the time the position is taken up.
