Job description

Are you passionate about embedded software development and eager to contribute to the future of e-mobility?

We are now looking for an Embedded Developer to join DEFA’s E-Mobility R&D team. In this role, you will develop the embedded software that powers our charging and energy management solutions while working closely with experienced colleagues across software, hardware and systems engineering.

About the Role

As an Embedded Developer at DEFA, you will be involved throughout the entire development process – from architecture and implementation to testing, debugging and continuous improvement.

Working closely with hardware engineers and system specialists, you will develop robust and high‑quality software for embedded systems used in charging and energy management solutions.

The team works across the entire product portfolio, combining continuous improvement of existing products with the development of next‑generation charging solutions. This provides an opportunity to work with both new features and entirely new product platforms.

You will join an experienced and highly skilled team where knowledge sharing and continuous learning are a natural part of everyday work. The role is well suited for both early‑career and experienced developers who want to grow within embedded software development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain embedded software primarily in C/C++.
  • Implement low‑level firmware, drivers and software interacting directly with hardware.
  • Perform testing, debugging and troubleshooting using emulators, debuggers and HW‑in‑loop environments.
  • Contribute to software architecture, design and technical decision‑making.
  • Optimize software performance, memory usage, processing speed and energy efficiency.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design and API documentation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of development tools, processes and code quality.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers and system specialists throughout the development lifecycle.
Your Background
  • Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience in embedded software development.
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++.
  • Experience with Python, Bash or similar scripting languages.
  • Understanding of object‑oriented design principles, software architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience with testing, debugging and troubleshooting embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Yocto or other embedded operating systems is considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD environments is considered beneficial.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required. Scandinavian language skills are considered an advantage.
  • Experience working with embedded systems is more important than industry background. Candidates from areas such as automotive, telecommunications, consumer electronics, industrial automation, medical technology or similar environments are all of interest.
Who You Are
  • Passionate about software development and technology.
  • Structured, analytical and quality‑focused.
  • Curious, collaborative and solution‑oriented.
  • Comfortable collaborating across disciplines and organizational boundaries.
  • Motivated by solving complex technical challenges and continuously improving products and ways of working.
Why Join DEFA

At DEFA, you will join an international technology company with ambitious growth plans and a collaborative culture built on competence, innovation and teamwork. Working alongside highly skilled colleagues and using state‑of‑the‑art technologies, tools and development platforms, you will have the opportunity to influence both products and ways of working while continuing to grow professionally.
