Job description
Overview

Statnett is hiring an Electrical Engineer with competence in power transformers, shunt-reactors, and arc suppression reactors to contribute to a safe and sustainable energy future. Statnett has an ambitious strategy to help achieve net zero emissions by 2050, enabling electrification and new green value creation at an even faster pace. This means more and larger tasks, both within grid and digitalization. In the Apparatus and Components section, we organize Statnett’s technical expertise in gas-insulated and air-insulated switchgear, power transformers, shunt-reactors, and arc suppression reactors. Candidates who are motivated to develop specialized expertise in these areas are encouraged to apply and will receive training within a unique professional environment.

Your Role

In this position, you will be responsible for power transformers, shunt-reactors, and arc suppression reactors from early-phase and solution selection to commissioning. You will be a key technical resource for the operations organization and have the opportunity to participate in both national and international professional forums. We work closely with suppliers and projects to ensure safe and cost-effective solutions, and you will play a central role in this work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Technical responsibility for power transformers, shunt-reactors, and arc suppression reactors in projects
  • Preparing technical solutions and specifications
  • Following up on design and manufacturing (design reviews, inspections, technical clarifications, FAT)
  • Supporting installation and testing (SAT) by our suppliers in collaboration with other project technical resources and our site operation organization
  • Contributing to the development of Statnett’s technical standards
  • Follow-up in the warranty-period for contracts of technical issues
What we are looking for

We are looking for a team player with a strong interest in oil-filled transformer and reactor technology, who enjoys both sharing knowledge, and developing their own expertise. You thrive in combining analytical tasks with hands-on work and feel confident in dialogue with both colleagues and suppliers.

We believe you have:

  • A master’s or bachelor’s degree in electrical power engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience or interest in large power transformers, shunt-reactors, and arc suppression reactors
  • Preferably experience from design, testing (FAT/SAT), operation of the relevant products, or from suppliers of these products
  • Ability to travel to our suppliers offices in Europe and Asia and also for site inspections in Norway
  • Driver’s license (Class B)
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken, in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language)

Primary workplace will be at one of our offices in Oslo, Trondheim, Drammen, Sandnes, Sunndalsøra, Bergen, or Alta.

Personal attributes

You are able to think holistically and strategically while working independently and systematically. With strong capacity to manage and complete tasks, you combine a customer-oriented and business-minded approach with a strong focus on ensuring a safe working environment through solid HSE follow-up. We also expect you will bring a positive spirit to both the professional and social environment in our team.

We offer
  • An opportunity to contribute to a critical societal mission and the green transition
  • Professional development and challenging, meaningful tasks in a highly skilled environment
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working hours
  • Possibility to work remotely from home-office, but mainly in our workplaces
  • Attractive pension and insurance schemes
  • Occupational health services
  • Company cabins, fitness facilities, and sports clubs
