Purpose of the role
The Domain Architect is responsible for designing the technology solution within a specific transformation workstream, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overarching reference architecture and technical standards. By collaborating with Business Stakeholders, Digital Workstream Lead and Digital Leads, and Engineers & Developers this role translates business requirements into a reliable, scalable, maintainable, and secure technical design.
All roles within the digital delivery organization focus on delivering digital solutions and support for the transformation workstreams. The roles are expected to work with the entire CDO including close collaboration with their respective counterpart roles within ITOPS to ensure stable operations and smooth transition from existing to future landscape.
Accountabilities
- Ensuring the domain & solution architecture supports the workstream’s business objectives and is technically sound
- Adhering to governance, security, and regulatory requirements relevant to the solution
- Maintaining architecture documentation (e.g., diagrams, standards, design decisions)
- Identifying potential risks (e.g., performance bottlenecks, security gaps) and proposing mitigation strategies
Knowledge and skills
- Proficiency in defining technical design for solutions (components, interfaces, integrations)
- Experience in reference architectures, security requirements, and governance standards
- Experience in guiding engineers and developers on ongoing solution implementation
- Experience in technology evaluation (frameworks, tools, platforms) suited for the workstream’s technical needs
- Ability to conduct impact analyses on new technologies or modifications (performance, security, compatibility)
Domain Expertise
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements and roadmap, ensuring that technology decisions support commercial or operational goals
- Experience in managing technical solutions for shipping and capacity planning and booking management processes
- Awareness of common industry‐relevant technology stacks
Soft/Leadership Skills
- Strong collaboration with Business Architect to ensure designs address functional needs and process flows
- Skilled in providing architectural guidance to developers, assisting with challenges, and maintaining consistency in deliverables
- Ability to communicate technical decisions (risks, trade‐offs) clearly to the IT Lead and other stakeholders
Required Experience
- Advanced degree in Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years in solution architecture, systems design, or related technical leadership positions
- Demonstrable track record of designing and delivering complex, integrated solutions aligned with organizational standards

What are the most essential competencies required to succeed in this role?
- Proficiency in defining and validating technical roadmaps, architecture choices, and solution design (aligned with enterprise guidelines)
- Experience breaking down development tasks, assigning responsibilities, and tracking technical progress
- Skilled in overseeing integration, data migration, compliance with security/quality standards
- Knowledge of reference architectures, best practices (e.g., API‐First, microservices, serverless), and DevSecOps
- Understanding of business objectives and how to shape tech. solutions to achieve objectives
- Experience in delivering operational solutions for shipping operations (primarily plain COTS/SaaS) with minimal customization (ideally multi‐region and multi‐currency invoicing)
