Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Head of Preschool (50% permanent position), starting October 2025.

This is a chance to help shape and lead a highly valued part of Stavanger’s international community - a preschool that families trust and children love. Working closely with the Head of Preschool, you will play a key role in both day-to-day operations and long-term development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in pedagogy/early childhood studies (approved by HKDir) and/or barnehage lærerutdanning.
• Leadership qualifications and/or experience.
• Training in the IB Primary Years/Early Years Programme is an advantage.
• Good communication skills in English (minimum B2, written and oral) and Norwegian (minimum B1, written and oral).
• Confident with IT and digital management platforms.

Responsibilities

• Leading and administering the daily running of the preschool responsibly and in accordance with the aims of the organisation and Norwegian law for preschools, under supervision of the Head of Preschool.
• Contributing to the recruitment of class leaders, SEND teachers, and teaching assistants.
• Following up on staff on personnel matters.
• Conducting staff appraisals and providing feedback in collaboration with the Preschool Class Leaders.
• Helping the Head of Preschool ensure that good personnel routines are maintained.
• Maintaining and improving the working environment.
• Administering absence and leave.
• Managing pedagogical aspects of the Preschool.
• Being enthusiastic, open-minded, proactive, and adaptable.
• Having a strong work ethic with structured, systematic working methods.
• Possessing a collaborative mindset and solution-focused approach.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.

The Preschool is on the same campus as BISS Gausel, one of the BISS primary schools, in a quiet suburb of Stavanger. The adjacent woodland and fjord provide enriched outdoor learning experiences. BISS Preschool collaborates with BISS Gausel and BISS Sentrum Primary Schools.
