Job summary

Umbilical Advanced is seeking a Chief Engineer to join a major new data centre campus in Norway. You will build and lead your own engineering team, shaping operational standards and guiding the development from construction to live operations.

You will oversee electrical and mechanical infrastructure, ensure uptime, and drive safety, reliability, and continuous improvements across European engineering teams. Fluency in English is required, Norwegian is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience in data centre operations and leadership is required.
• Strong electrical/mechanical engineering background with HV/LV, UPS, switchgear, gensets.
• Experience with safety certifications and risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the engineering team for uptime and reliability.
• Oversee critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure for max performance.
• Support commissioning and transition from construction to live ops.
• Manage preventive and corrective maintenance and contractors.
• Act as senior technical escalation point for troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with campus leadership to improve efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the engineering team, driving a culture of safety, reliability and operational excellence.
• Oversee critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, ensuring maximum uptime and performance.
• Support commissioning, testing and the transition from construction into live operations.
• Manage preventive and corrective maintenance, contractors and technical procedures.
• Act as the senior technical escalation point, leading troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Work closely with campus leadership to continuously improve operational efficiency and reliability.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years' experience in data centre operations or mission-critical environments.
• Strong electrical engineering background, including HV/LV systems, UPS, switchgear and generators.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC and cooling infrastructure.
• Proven experience leading and managing engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of maintenance procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Fluent English; Norwegian language skills highly advantageous.
• Relevant electrical switching authorisations and safety certifications.
