Job summary

Lee County Transit System (COLTS) in Sanford, NC seeks a part-time driver to operate COLTS or micro transit vehicles on demand response or scheduled routes, serving Lee County residents and nearby facilities.

You will assist riders, including those in wheelchairs, record trip data, and report vehicle maintenance or safety concerns. Prioritize safety and customer service in a community transportation role.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
  • Ability to complete training in passenger assistance, defensive driving, and first aid.
  • Must have a good driving record and submit a copy of driving record for the last three years.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and random drug testing throughout employment tenure; NC SBI fingerprinting and background check required.

General Definition And Mission

The County of Lee Transit System is a coordinated transit system that provides paratransit and micro transit transportation services for the public and human service organizations in Lee County. The mission of COLTS is to provide safe and reliable transportation to the citizens of Lee County.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

COLTS is seeking qualified applicants for Part Time Driver. Employees work 25 to 30 hours flexible schedule per week.

The essential functions of the job are to:

  • Drive a COLTS or micro transit vehicle on a demand response or scheduled route transporting individuals to and from various locations within Lee County and surrounding medical facilities.
  • Assist clients in wheelchairs, lifting them safely into and out of the vehicle.
  • Maintain records such as time at each stop, purpose of trip, number of passengers per day, mileage, and report required vehicle maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Operate large automotive equipment as required.

Experience in operation of large automotive equipment is desirable.

Special Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license in the State of North Carolina.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training in passenger assistance, defensive driving, and first aid.
  • Must have a good driving record and submit a copy of driving record for the last three years.
  • Pre- employment drug testing required and random drug testing throughout employment tenure.
