Shape the financial future of a global decarbonisation pioneer

Northern Lights is looking for a strategic, resilient and commercially driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial, procurement and HR functions as we transition from a pioneer project into a fully operational and expanding commercial enterprise.

As CFO, you will play a central role in the Management Team, reporting directly to the Managing Director. You will hold overall accountability for our financial strategy, commercial risk management, performance management framework, tax and treasury, as well as overseeing Contract & Procurement (C&P), HR and office administration.

Northern Lights JV is the leading CO2 transport and storage (CCS) company. Our purpose is to enable European industry to decarbonise and help countries to meet climate goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all financial dimensions of the JV, including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, P&L management, cash flow, tax compliance and revenue controlling.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the Managing Director and actively manage the interface with owners (Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies), the Company Meeting and financial partners-aligning corporate priorities with owner expectations.
  • Drive high-quality reporting, business planning packages and financial governance tailored to meet the rigorous standards and diverse requirements of our owner companies.
  • Ensure robust financial position of the company as it scales its operations and expands capacity.
  • Support commercial negotiations, complex maritime contracts and counterparty credit risk assessments to maximise long-term value creation.
  • Ensure optimal financial control and compliance across State Support Agreements (SSA), EU CEF funding and joint-venture owner structures.
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing multidisciplinary team of 8 FTE across Finance, Treasury, C&P and HR, fostering cross-functional alignment and psychological safety.
  • Further develop governance, internal controls and data-driven ERP systems to support a commercialised business model.
  • Be an ambassador for the culture and values of Northern Lights.

Who we are looking for:
Aside from your core responsibilities as CFO, one of your most important tasks will be your active contribution to building the Northern Lights culture and driving commercial success.

We are seeking an experienced senior executive with a proven track record of delivery from oil and gas, energy infrastructure, or similar complex industries. You hold a university degree in finance, business administration, or an equivalent field. While extensive leadership experience is highly valued, personal drive, resilience, attitude and learning capacity are considered equally important. To succeed in this role, you bring deep insight into corporate governance, multi-owner joint-venture frameworks and complex commercial or maritime contracts.

To thrive in our executive team, you bring a strong professional resolve combined with diplomatic tact-enabling you to stand firm on company priorities while building strong, trusting relationships with owners and external partners. You balance high-level strategic alignment with hands‑on execution and possess a passion for leading people through complex landscapes. Exceptional communication skills and fluency in English are required, while proficiency in Norwegian is preferred.

What we offer:
You will play a pivotal role in contributing to the success of Northern Lights by embodying our core values: Innovative, Dedicated, Reliable, and Open. Northern Lights offers committed and experienced colleagues, a competitive compensation package, excellent pension and insurance schemes and a workplace with significant professional flexibility and impact.

Northern Lights JV is responsible for developing and operating CO2 transport and storage facilities, open to third parties, as part of Longship, the Norwegian Government's full-scale carbon capture and storage project. We started our operations in August 2025 and we are the first ever cross-border, open-source CO2 transport and storage infrastructure network, shipping CO2 to an onshore receiving terminal at Øygarden on the Norwegian west coast, before being transported by pipeline for safe storage in a reservoir 2,600 metres under the seabed.

Northern Lights JV DA is a registered, incorporated General Partnership with Shared Liability (DA) owned equally by Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies.
