Associate professor of Medicine (Cancer Neuroscience)
At the Faculty of Medicine, a permanent position (100%) as associate professor is available at Centre for Cancer Biomarkers CCBIO at Department of Clinical Medicine (K1).
We are looking for a colleague who, together with the staff at CCBIO, will contribute to excellent research, teaching, dissemination and innovation. CCBIO has several research groups at multiple departments, conducts research on biomarkers for cancer and provides teaching in a range of relevant subjects through its research school, the Research School for Cancer Studies. We are looking for a person who is in an active phase of his or her career, and who has demonstrated enthusiasm and academic expertise within cancer neuroscience.
About the work tasks/research
The person who fills this position shall both initiate and lead research projects and teach and supervise students and research fellows, as well as take on administrative tasks within a recommended time frame. It is expected that the person who fills this position will regularly submit applications to relevant national and international sources for research funding. The teaching responsibilities that are assigned to this position are primarily connected to biomarkers for cancer and topics relevant for CCBIO’s research, but the person who fills this position is obligated to teach in areas relating to the study programs for which the faculty/department is responsible at any given time. The person who fills this position is expected to demonstrate a high level of ambition and good quality with regards to research and teaching, and to participate actively in the strategic planning and academic activities of CCBIO, K1 and the faculty.
Qualifications and personal qualities
Qualified applicants have a Norwegian doctoral degree in molecular biology, or equivalent qualifications and experience with cell models for analysis of cancer- and nerve cells, work with stem cells, proteomics analysis, single cell analysis and advanced morphological methods like mass cytometry for tissue studies and satisfy the requirements concerning
educational competence. The ideal candidate publishes at a high international level within cancer neuroscience and related fields, has been successfully having a key role in applying for grants from national and international sources of financing for research, and has established, or is in the process of establishing, his or her own research team. Results attained in the course of the last 5-7 years will be given particular weight in evaluation of the application. The ideal candidate also has experience with teaching at the bachelor- and master level or in a program of professional study or on the PhD level, as well as experience with supervision of research fellows, preferably also as main supervisor. Experience from different national and international research institutions, and the ability to establish international networks will count positively in the evaluation, as will experience with and interest in innovation. The applicant’s personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.
Educational competence is a requirement for the position, see guidelines for establishment of a pedagogical portfolio at Center for medical education . The requirement is absolute for appointment as professor while an associate professor will be offered the necessary training if the requirement is not met before appointment.
The language of teaching is normally Norwegian. The person who fills this position must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years after appointment. Language courses will be offered.
