Job summary

Lace Lithography in Bergen, Norway, seeks an AMO Experimental Physicist/Engineer (Junior to Senior) to join our AMO team and translate advanced R&D concepts into robust beam conditioning hardware for next‑gen chip lithography.

You will design, build, and optimize laser cooling and atomic‑beam experiments, work with physicists and developers, and contribute to diagnostics, software, and documentation while relocating support is available.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, or related field focusing on AMO physics, or a Master in Physics with 5 years AMO experience.
  • Proven experience with laser cooling and atom optics.
  • Hands-on skills in aligning complex optical systems and vacuum hardware.
  • Experience with data acquisition/analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW).

Responsibilities

  • Experimental Development: Design, build, and optimize experimental setups involving laser cooling, atomic beams, and metastable atom sources.
  • System Optimization: Improve beam conditioning modules for flux, control, and long-term stability.
  • Diagnostics: Develop advanced diagnostic systems including spectroscopy and beam profilers.
  • Hardware Integration: Collaborate with Optomechanical and CAD engineers to improve atomic physics systems.
  • Operational Support: Deploy Lace systems and provide technical training to new AMO Squad members.
  • Documentation: Contribute to technical background documents and design reviews with calculations and references.

Lace Lithography is seeking a highly experienced AMO Experimental Physicist / Engineers (Junior to Senior) to join our AMO team. In this high-impact role, you will be a key contributor to the development and optimization of our Beam Conditioning systems. Working alongside physicists, chemists and developers, you will play a critical role in transitioning high-level R&D concepts into robust product architectures. This role requires a combination of deep theoretical understanding and hands-on experimental skill in laser cooling and atomic physics.

This role is based in Bergen (Norway).

Key Responsibilities

  • Experimental Development: Design, build, and optimize experimental setups involving laser cooling, atomic beams, and metastable atom sources.
  • System Optimization: Work on the iterative improvement of beam conditioning modules, focusing on flux enhancement, beam control, and long-term stability.
  • Diagnostics: Develop and implement advanced diagnostic systems, including spectroscopy, beam profilers, etc.
  • Hardware Integration: Collaborate with Optomechanical and CAD engineers to improve the atomic physics systems.
  • Operational Support: Support the deployment of Lace systems and provide technical training to new AMO Squad members.
  • Documentation: Contribute to technical background documents and design reviews, providing supporting evidence through detailed calculations and references.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, or a related engineering field with a focus on AMO physics or a Masters in Physics with 5 years of experience in AMO.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience with laser cooling, and atom optics.
  • Hands-on Skills: Proficiency in working with and aligning complex optical systems related to atomic physics experiments. Knowledge of and experience with vacuum systems.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to perform feasibility studies, modeling, and quick calculations to guide system development.
  • Software: Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW).
Valued But Not Required
  • Experience working in the lithography industry
  • Experience with cooling He, Xe or Ne
  • Experience coding with Julia, Optics Modeling (e.g. Zemax)
