Job summary

TOS is seeking a proactive Vessel Operator to coordinate international voyage activities and ensure safe, efficient execution for assigned vessels. You will prepare and execute operational tasks, resolve challenges, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders.

You will work in an international environment with a focus on safety, budgets, and compliance, while contributing to continuous improvement and cost control.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an operational role within shipping or maritime industries.
  • Educational background aligned with maritime operations or related field.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

  • Follow up on operational inquiries, PDA requests from internal departments.
  • Verify voyage costs and budgets in cooperation with the Commercial Department.
  • Review Charter Parties to determine scope of work and responsibilities, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Appoint local port agents and review, negotiate, and approve disbursement accounts.
  • Prepare and issue voyage instructions to vessel captains.
  • Plan, procure, and coordinate bunker operations and related activities.
  • Monitor and supervise the day-to-day operational performance of vessels.
  • Follow up on freight, demurrage, bunker escalation invoices, and other costs.
  • Ensure accurate project control and financial voyage administration.
  • Conduct post-voyage evaluations and share lessons learned with management for improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.

VESSEL OPERATOR

As a Vessel Operator, you are responsible for preparing and executing all operational voyage activities for your assigned vessels. By coordinating operations, resolving operational challenges, and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders, you ensure that every voyage is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with operational requirements.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Intermediate or Higher Vocational Education (preferably in Maritime Transport) or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a similar operational role within the shipping or maritime industry.
  • Compliance with all requirements as outlined in the company's competency and training matrix.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset and the ability to work effectively in an international environment.
  • You are based in the Netherlands.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follow up on operational inquiries, feasibility studies, and Proforma Disbursement Account (PDA) requests from internal departments.
  • Verify voyage costs and budgets in close cooperation with the Commercial Department.
  • Review Charter Parties to determine the scope of work, liabilities, and responsibilities, and communicate these with the relevant internal departments and stakeholders.
  • Appoint local port agents and review, negotiate, and approve disbursement accounts.
  • Prepare and issue voyage instructions to vessel captains.
  • Plan, procure, and coordinate bunker operations, bunker calls, and related activities.
  • Monitor and supervise the day-to-day operational performance of assigned vessels.
  • Follow up on freight, demurrage, bunker escalation invoices, and other reimbursable costs.
  • Ensure accurate project control and financial voyage administration.
  • Conduct post-voyage evaluations and share lessons learned with management to support continuous improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.
