Job summary

TNO is seeking a highly skilled researcher to advance acoustic and optical underwater communications, focusing on algorithm development and networks of autonomous underwater nodes. The role involves hands-on experiments in the lab and at sea, with opportunities to contribute to defence and security innovations.

Qualifications

• PhD and/or MSc in electrical engineering or computer science.
• Affinity with telecommunications and signal processing.
• Knowledge of modulations, network protocols and architectures.
• Preferably some years of (applied) research experience.
• Able to work in international/military contexts; excellent English communication.

Responsibilities

• Improve algorithms for acoustic and optical underwater communications on OSI layers.
• Research optimization of communications within networks of autonomous underwater nodes and drones.
• Design, set up and run experiments, in lab or at sea, including realistic simulations and measurements.
• Report and present results to Defence, peers and colleagues.
