Job summary

TNO is seeking a medior scientist in underwater communications to work on multiple projects for clients including the Ministry of Defence. You will join a dedicated team, contribute to innovative solutions, and have opportunities for personal growth.

The role emphasizes collaboration, continuous learning, and applying state-of-the-art acoustic sensor systems and data processing for situational awareness in challenging environments.

Qualifications

• MSc in electrical engineering and/or computer science.
• Experience or specialization in telecommunications and signal processing, including algorithm development.
• Knowledge of modulations, network protocols and architectures.
• Several years of (applied) research experience preferred.
• Proactive and assertive; responsible for final results and completion of tasks.
• Clear and convincing communication in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
• Able to work in an international and military context (European/NATO projects).
• Open to new ideas, eager to learn, and help others learn.

Responsibilities

• Improve algorithms for acoustic and optical underwater communications across OSI layers.
• Research optimising communications within networks of autonomous underwater nodes and drones.
• Design, set up, and conduct experiments, in simulations and in lab or at sea.
• Report and present results to Defence, peers and colleagues.
