Climate Adaptation Engineer (Mechanical/Thermal) – ALTEN Netherlands

We’re looking for engineers with mechanical and thermal expertise to ensure product durability and performance in the most demanding global environments.

About the Role

• Language: Fluent in English (Dutch not required)
• Degree: MSc or BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related discipline
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience in thermal design, environmental qualification, or mechanical systems engineering

Responsibilities

As a Climate Adaptation Engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team adapting complex products for reliable operation in harsh environments. Your expertise in thermal management, corrosion resistance, and environmental compliance will ensure long-term durability and optimal function across climate extremes.

• Analyse and adapt designs for operation in extreme climates (e.g. arctic cold, desert heat, high humidity)
• Develop and implement thermal management strategies for passive and active cooling/heating
• Evaluate materials and coatings for corrosion resistance and thermal performance
• Define and support environmental testing (temperature, humidity, salt spray, vibration, etc.)
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to embed climate resilience into design
• Support regulatory compliance and documentation related to environmental standards

Qualifications

• Strong background in thermal management and mechanical design for harsh environments
• Knowledge of corrosion resistance strategies and environmental stress factors
• Experience with environmental testing standards (MIL-STD, IEC, ISO, etc.)
• Familiarity with simulation tools for thermal analysis (e.g. ANSYS, FloTHERM) is a plus
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills
