Do you enjoy working in the broad field of analysis and engaging with different research directions within mathematics? Are you interested in contributing to a diverse and collaborative research environment? The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) is looking for an ambitious colleague who is eager to strengthen and connect these areas, while also contributing to the institute’s teaching and research community. You will become part of KdVI’s Analysis group.

At all ranks, this position is intended to lead to a permanent (tenured) appointment. We therefore offer a full-time (38 hours per week) temporary contract for an initial period of 18 months, including a two-month probationary period. Subject to a positive evaluation, the appointment will be converted into a permanent position. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible The position is offered as open rank, ranging from Assistant Professor to Full Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. Salary will be determined in accordance with university regulations for academic staff and based on experience and qualifications. The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between assistant professor € 3,706 to € 5,760 (scale 10). to full professor € 7,475 to € 10,815 (scale H2). In addition there is a 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Faculty of Science has a student body of around 8,000, as well as 1,800 members of staff working in education, research or support services. Researchers and students at the Faculty of Science are fascinated by every aspect of how the world works, be it elementary particles, the birth of the universe or the functioning of the brain.
The Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics (KdVI) is the mathematics research institute of the Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam. KdVI provides a stimulating scientific environment, with research focusing on Algebra, Geometry and Mathematical Physics; Analysis; Stochastics; and Discrete Mathematics and Quantum Information. The institute also contributes to mathematics education within the Faculty of Science. KdVI participates in the national mathematics research clusters GQT, STAR, NDNS+, and DIAMANT, as well as the Quantum Software Consortium. It maintains formal and informal collaborations with the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and partners in the financial sector. In addition, KdVI organises outreach activities such as Leve de Wiskunde, masterclasses, and online web classes. The institute comprises approximately 30 faculty members and 40 postdoctoral researchers and PhD candidates.
The Analysis program of the KdVI consists of two research groups: the Numerical Analysis and Applied Analysis group headed by Prof. Rob Stevenson, and the Pure Analysis and Dynamical Systems group headed by Prof. Han Peters. The Analysis group currently contains four other full-time staff members, two part-time staff members, four postdocs and several PhD students. The research in the pure analysis and dynamical systems group addresses dynamics of both real and complex dynamical systems in low dimensions. The research in the Numerical Analysis and Applied Analysis group addresses numerical solution methods for PDE's, as well as problems from computational geometry and medical imaging. Current researchers from the analysis program frequently collaborate with the stochastics or the discrete mathematics groups within the KdVI.
