Job description

OUR COMPANY

SonicPrecision is a spin-out from Philips. We build near-field ultrasound sensing into the tip of a cardiac ablation catheter. This lets heart-rhythm specialists see, during the procedure itself, whether the treated tissue is fully and permanently treated. Today they cannot, and that is the main reason why so many patients with ventricular tachycardia — one of the hardest heart-rhythm disorders to treat — have to come back for a second procedure.

We hold an exclusive licence to the underlying Philips technology and patents. We have €1.5M in confirmed grant funding as part of the €4M seed round we are raising. Our pre-clinical programme runs with CARIM at Maastricht University; our technical program with the TU Eindhoven. The next milestone is our first study in patients. Everything between now and then has to go according to plan — and that is where you come in.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

As Technical Project Lead, you turn our technology strategy into a development programme that works in practice and is backed by evidence. You bring people, technology, suppliers, and experiments together so that every milestone is reached on time, within budget, and with the proof to back it up.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Program architecture and planning
  • Turn the product and technology roadmap into a milestone-driven plan: workpackages, owners, dependencies, resources, timelines
  • Keep the programme schedule up to date and raise risks, blockers, and delays early, while there is still time to act
  • Organise the review meetings at each milestone and prepare the evidence and documents we need to decide whether we can move to the next phase
  • Make sure each phase produces the regulatory documentation that ISO 13485 and EU MDR require
  • Streamline and report our progress within the non-dilutive funding program to safeguard milestones and tranche payments
  • Preparing the software for the demonstrator system to be scaled to the first in human phase with focus on safety and reliability
  • Structure documentation and reports required for this scaling (requirements, specifications, design, risk management, testing)
  • Managing and extending the in-house software team
Cross-functional coordination
  • Connect the R&D Engineer, Clinical Scientist, System Engineer, and founding team, and keep the technical, clinical, and regulatory workstreams aligned: stakeholder management in practice
  • Manage suppliers, contract research organisations, and academic partners (CARIM / MUMC+): translate agreements into clear deliverables and make sure partners deliver what they promised
  • Coordinate technical input for grant reporting (Stimulus, RVO, NWO) and investor updates, working with the founders on both content and timing
Risk and resource management
  • Keep a risk register for both the technology and the programme, follow up on solutions, and bring a decision to the founders when one is needed
  • Compare spending against the budget, point out capacity problems early, and propose realistic choices
  • Prepare "make or buy" decisions on components, test equipment, and external expertise: collect the facts and lay out the options clearly
Documentation and quality governance
  • Keep technical documentation — requirements, test protocols, design files, meeting minutes, supplier agreements — structured, version-controlled, and audit-ready from day one
  • Set up the project management basics — planning tools, templates, a fixed review rhythm — that a CE-marking programme needs at this early stage
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s in industrial engineering, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, technical medicine, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience: 1-3 years. A graduation project in medical device development, R&D project coordination, or systems integration counts with proper evidence. Experience in a regulated industry (medical devices, aerospace, semiconductors) is a plus, but we will teach you what you do not know yet
  • Technical grounding: You do not need to be an expert in ultrasound or catheter design. You do need enough engineering understanding to run a critical path, spot gaps in plans, and challenge assumptions
  • Structured working style: You think in milestones, dependencies, and risk. You write things down clearly without being asked, and you keep track of what you said you would keep track of.
  • Regulatory awareness: Knowing ISO 13485, IEC 62304, or the EU MDR lifecycle is a plus. Wanting to grow into our in-house expert on this is what really counts
  • Communication: Clear written and spoken English. You can write a short status update, chair a focused meeting, and raise a problem calmly and early. Our working language is English, so Dutch is a bonus and not a requirement (but helpful at the coffee machine).
  • Mindset: You are the person who makes sure that things which need to happen, actually happen. You take ownership without needing a formal title, and when something goes wrong you look for the fix rather than for someone to blame
OUR OFFER
  • Ownership of a programme that matters: the bridge between technology and patients
  • Stock Appreciation Rights — you build the programme, you share the upside
  • Direct collaboration with the founding team and technical leads across engineering and clinical science
  • Salary in line with your experience and our stage as a start-up, reviewed once a year
  • 25 holiday days, 8% holiday allowance, and a travel allowance
  • Access to the HighTechXL venture builder ecosystem, MUMC+ clinical research environment, and TU/e innovation facilities
  • Growth in medical device programme management, one of the most transferable skill sets in MedTech
OUR CULTURE
  • Visible impact: if the programme is on track, it shows; if a milestone slips, you fix it
  • A flat Dutch working culture: no layers of management and no politics — you sit at the same table as the CEO, and you are expected to say so when you disagree
PRACTICAL DETAILS
  • Location: Eindhoven. You work mainly on site, because the role needs day-to-day contact with the team and hands-on work in the lab
  • Contract: Full-time. A one-year contract to start, with the clear intention to extend
  • Start date: Q1 2027, or sooner by mutual agreement
  • Application deadline: 1 November 2026; applications reviewed on a rolling basis
  • Right to work: You must already have the right to work in the Netherlands; we are not able to act as a recognised sponsor at this stage
