Job summary

Nouryon is seeking a Technical Development Manager in Amsterdam to drive growth with coatings customers by translating needs into value-driven solutions across formulation, R&D, and commercial teams.

You will build strong technical relationships, lead projects, and collaborate with account managers to ensure product performance, adoption, and market intelligence.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemistry or Materials Science with strong coatings knowledge.

About the job

You will join the Nouryon Paints & Coatings business line. In this role, you will drive growth opportunities with customers in the Coatings market by identifying, developing, and communicating compelling value propositions for our chemical additives in a wide range of end-use applications. As part of the commercial team, you will partner closely with Account Managers to provide technical expertise, foster innovation, and support the successful introduction and adoption of our products. Acting as a key link between market needs, R&D, and sales, you will help translate customer challenges into value-driven solutions that accelerate business growth and enhance customer satisfaction.

In your future role as Technical Development Manager you will

• Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with existing and prospective customers in the Coatings market, driving business growth through the identification and conversion of new opportunities.
• Lead technical projects with key customers and prospects, acting as the link between customers, R&D, and commercial teams.
• Provide technical expertise and support to customers, ensuring successful product performance, introduction, and adoption.
• Partner with Account Managers during customer engagements and support the resolution of product quality issues and customer complaints.
• Identify unmet customer and market needs and translate these into product, technology, and growth opportunities.
• Own and drive the opportunity pipeline for growth projects, supporting the development and commercialization of new and existing products.
• Build compelling technical value propositions and define technical marketing priorities in close collaboration with Sales and Marketing.
• Deliver technical training and guidance to sales teams, distributors, agents, and customers.
• Represent Nouryon at industry events, conferences, and trade shows, sharing technical insights and gathering market intelligence.
• Ensure technical and commercial product information remains accurate and up to date, including product data sheets, technical bulletins, brochures, and web content.
• Identify portfolio gaps and recommend new products, line extensions, or value-added services to support future growth.

We believe you bring

• A Bachelor or Master in Chemistry, Materials Science or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in the coatings industry, preferably in a technical, technical service, product management, application development, or similar role.
• Experience with formulation, application development, or technical marketing.
• A strong combination of technical expertise and commercial acumen, with the ability to identify and develop new business.
• A proven track record of translating market needs into product development initiatives and converting opportunities into sustainable business growth.
• Excellent project management, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Strong communication skills, enabling you to convey complex technical concepts in a clear and customer-focused way to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• An established network within the European coatings industry is a plus.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
