Job summary

Suitsupply is seeking a Tech Lead Shopify to own the technical vision for a new global headless storefront on Shopify Hydrogen. You will lead frontend engineers, make architectural decisions, and ensure the platform scales across markets and languages from our Amsterdam HQ.

You’ll work hands-on, shaping standards, code quality, and the overall direction of the storefront, with opportunities for growth in leadership and architectural depth.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production web applications with React and TypeScript
• 2+ years in a Tech Lead role
• Experience with headless commerce and Shopify Hydrogen is a plus
• Ability to design scalable frontend architectures
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication

Responsibilities

• Define and own the storefront architecture across markets, languages, and devices
• Lead frontend engineers through architectural decisions, code reviews, pairing, and hands-on guidance
• Make technology choices, patterns, and trade-offs, communicating rationale to team and stakeholders
• Balance delivery velocity with technical health; manage technical debt
• Own the integration strategy with Shopify APIs, UI Extensions, Sanity CMS, and third-party systems
• Define testing strategy with QA for unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage
• Set and raise the bar for performance, accessibility, security, and reliability
• Drive the frontend chapter and establish shared standards for development practices and monitoring

Job description

Suitsupply recently launched a new global headless storefront on Shopify Hydrogen, replacing its legacy platform. It's TypeScript-first, serves 26+ countries and multiple languages, and lives inside a monorepo shared with other customer-facing applications. The platform is young and the technical direction is still being defined. We're looking for a Tech Lead Shopify to own the technical vision for this platform. You won't just write code. You'll decide how the storefront evolves, set the standards the team works by, and be accountable for the quality and scalability of what ships. You'll lead a team of frontend engineers and work closely with a product manager and designer. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be deep in the code while also making the architectural calls that shape the platform for years to come.

What you will do:

• Define and own the technical architecture of the storefront across markets, languages, and devices
• Lead a team of frontend engineers through architectural decisions, code reviews, pairing, and hands-on guidance
• Make the call on technology choices, patterns, and trade-offs, and communicate the reasoning to the team and stakeholders
• Balance delivery velocity with technical health. Proactively manage technical debt and know when to invest in it
• Own the integration strategy, from Shopify's APIs and UI Extensions to Sanity CMS and third-party systems for payments and logistics
• Define the testing strategy alongside QA engineers, covering unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage
• Set and continuously raise the bar for performance, accessibility, security, and reliability
• Drive the frontend chapter, establishing shared standards for development practices, monitoring, and ways of working that extend beyond your own team

Who you are:

• You have 5+ years of experience building production web applications with React and TypeScript in Next.JS of which 2+ year as Tech Lead
• You think in systems. You can design component architectures, integration patterns, and data flows that scale across markets and teams
• You're experienced with headless commerce and fluent in the technologies around it: GraphQL, headless CMS integration, and monorepo-scale development. Shopify Hydrogen is ideal, but deep experience with other platforms counts
• You’ve solved real problems around multi-market e-commerce, web performance, production observability, and security at scale, not just implemented patterns others defined
• You hold yourself and your team to a high standard. You care about code quality, developer experience, and building a culture of ownership
• You communicate effectively across the organization, from engineers to leadership, and can translate technical trade-offs into business terms
• Broader knowledge of the Shopify ecosystem, such as Functions and app development, is a plus. Above all, we value strong fundamentals and the ability to lead over expertise in any specific tool.
