Job summary

Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation invites a part-time Philosophy and Ethics teacher to join a multinational school in The Hague. The role covers a reduced schedule while reintegrating a colleague and aims for extension beyond the initial contract.

You will deliver Philosophy to 16–18-year-olds and Ethics to 11–18-year-olds, using the European Baccalaureate curriculum, fostering inclusivity and creative thinking.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Philosophy and a full teaching qualification for Secondary Education.
  • Ability to teach in English and Dutch to C2 level.
  • Experience teaching Philosophy to 16–18-year-olds, ideally in international settings.
  • Experience teaching Ethics to 11–18 is desirable.
  • Creative, inclusive teaching approach and willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities.
  • Willingness to continue beyond initial contract; living in the Netherlands with a work permit.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Philosophy lessons to students aged 16–18 following the European Baccalaureate curriculum.
  • Deliver Ethics lessons to students aged 11–18 following the European Baccalaureate curriculum.
  • Encourage creative thinking and inclusive classroom environments.
  • Collaborate with a team of educators to support the program.

When you work in ESH's Philosophy Department, you will be part of a small multicultural teams consisting of passionate teachers covering four language sections.   • Salary indication: Scale LB minimum €3463 and a maximum of €5277

About the Role

This position is to cover for a colleague working at reduced capacity and requiring an extended period of reintegration. The contract will be flexible, with a view to reducing as the colleague gradually resumes a full schedule.

As a Teacher of Philosophy and Ethics, you will:

  • Deliver engaging Philosophy lessons to students aged 16-18, following the European Baccalaureate curriculum.
  • Deliver engaging Ethics lessons to students aged 11-18, following the European Baccalaureate curriculum.
  • Encourage creative thinking and skill development through a variety of teaching methods.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment where every student’s talent is nurtured.
  • Collaborate with a team of passionate educators to support a thriving program.
What We’re Looking For
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Philosophy (First-degree/Eerste graads), or a related subject, and full teaching qualification for Secondary Education (recognized by the Dutch Education Authorities ).
  • The ideal candidate will be able to teach in both English and Dutch, with at least C2 level in both
  • Experience teaching Philosophy to students aged 16-18, ideally in international or intercultural settings.
  • Experience teaching Ethics to students aged 11-18 is desirable.
  • A creative, inclusive approach to teaching and a willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities.
  • The ability to speak other European languages is desirable, but not essential.
  • Flexibility to continue in the role beyond the initial contract, if required.
  • Living in the Netherlands with a working permit.
