Overview
FORTNA partners with the world’s leading brands to transform omnichannel and parcel distribution operations. We design and deliver solutions, powered by intelligent software, to optimize order fulfillment and last mile delivery. Our work includes network strategy, distribution center design and implementation, material handling automation, robotics, and lifecycle services. We seek a System Engineer (Mechatronics) to lead the development and implementation of logistics sorting systems at client sites, acting as the technical lead on projects.
Responsibilities
- Identify and understand customer needs at the start of projects
- Develop functional designs and determine the technical approach for sorting systems
- Coordinate the technical execution of designs across engineering disciplines
- Guide Lead Engineers throughout project execution
- Investigate and implement safety requirements, ensuring CE compliance
- Document designs using industry-specific 3D modelling software and functional specifications
- Implement safety features and establish functional acceptance criteria
- Analyze testing and acceptance results to optimise future system designs
- Present, discuss, inspect, and test systems during implementation phases
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously with varying timelines
- Maintain regular communication with clients and advise colleagues on technical matters
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team
- Travel to client sites approximately once a month as part of project execution
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering
- Experience in a technical environment with exposure to mechatronics projects
- Knowledge of logistics systems, technical developments/applications, and safety standards
- Ability to balance customer functional needs with technical quality considerations
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment
- Organised, efficient, and proactive working style
- Fluent English (written and verbal); Dutch is highly desirable; German is an advantage
