Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Groningen, Netherlands, is seeking a Staff Scientist to advance development of intraocular lenses and related medical devices from concept through validation. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, collaborate with European research institutes and US R&D, and contribute to design protocols, testing methods, and IP strategy.

The role requires a PhD in optics/physics, 5+ years of relevant experience, and strong communication and problem-solving skills to drive timely project

Qualifications

• PhD in optics, physics or vision science, mechanical modelling.
• Preferably 5 or more years of relevant experience.
• Proficient in optical design principles using Zemax, OSLO or other design tools.
• Deep expertise in own areas and subject matter expert for several subjects.
• Has good level contacts regarding project and program definition.
• Demonstrated research experience and interest in technology development.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, creative, flexible, positive attitude with initiative and drive for timely completion of goals.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development of new concepts for unique medical devices from ideation to market phase.

• Stay current with status of competitive products and tech trends to ensure innovative product design.
• Investigate and evaluate existing technologies.
• Contribute to IP strategy and assess external ideation
• Lead multi-disciplinary research teams and initiate independent research tasks with European research institutes.
• Work closely within a cross-functional team and with research institutes and R&D groups in USA.
