Staff AI Engineer - Enterprise AI Platform

Job summary

Workato is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to design and build production-grade AI platforms, with a focus on agentic orchestration, retrieval, and secure, scalable solutions for enterprise use. You will work closely with product and platform teams to translate advanced AI concepts into reliable services.

The role requires hands-on development, collaboration across teams, and a drive to optimize AI pipelines, data infrastructure, and observability in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with strong Python proficiency.
• Proven track record building production-grade systems with Python.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, and data-driven architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain AI-powered services and APIs using LLMs and custom ML models.
• Develop an enterprise-grade agentic framework for orchestration, retrieval, and collaboration between AI agents.
• Implement and optimize knowledge retrieval and agentic search using vector databases (Qdrant, ElasticSearch).
• Write clean, efficient Python code for production services and internal tools.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on architecture and API standards.
• Develop monitoring, validation, and observability for production AI solutions.
• Drive full SDLC from design to deployment and improvement.
• Identify and resolve performance and scaling bottlenecks in data-intensive environments.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering culture.
