European Space Agency (ESA) Noordwijk internship in the Navigation Systems Implementation and Validation Section offers hands-on experience in distributed computing architectures for space systems. You will work within the TEC-SEI NAVLAB area, gaining exposure to space navigation, PNT, and earth-observation processing, with emphasis on hardware-in-the-loop testing and onboard AI opportunities.

Qualifikationen

• University student, preferably in final or second-to-last year of Master’s study and able to be enrolled for the full duration.
• Good knowledge of Python and data analysis tools
• Familiarity with satellite systems, space communications, cloud computing and distributed computing concepts
• Basic understanding of AI and high-performance computing concepts
• Familiarity with systems engineering and modelling/simulation tools would be an asset

Aufgaben

• Identify distributed in-space processing architectures applicable to satellite navigation, PNT services, and earth observation data.
• Assess architectural trades: centralized vs distributed processing, edge computing, and on-board AI opportunities.
• Define representative use cases for ESA activities in navigation, EO and autonomous onboard decision-making.
• Design and prepare a Hardware-in-the-Loop compute node for NAVLAB and DISPlike experiments.
