Job summary

ESA's Navigation Systems Definition Section (TEC-SEN) at ESTEC, Noordwijk, empowers the development of PNT and geolocation systems for Earth, Space and Solar System applications. Interns will build simulators and analysis tools to characterize SSI performance and support an SSI In-Orbit Demonstrator mission in cislunar space.

You will work under a tutor, shaping the SSI architecture, performing mission analysis, and addressing deep-space navigation concepts using MATLAB or Python.

Qualifications

• You must be a university student, preferably in your final or second-to-last year of Master’s level.
• You must be enrolled at your university for the entire duration of the internship.
• The working languages are English and French; knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
• During the interview, your motivation for applying to this role will be explored.
• You should demonstrate experience in MATLAB or Python; orbital mechanics, astrodynamics and space mission analysis; or telecommunications.

Responsibilities

• Develop end-to-end simulators for SSI navigation performance assessment.
• Perform mission analysis for a Solar System In-Orbit Demonstrator in cislunar space.
• Analyse navigation use cases for future Solar System missions.
• Investigate autonomous positioning, navigation and time synchronisation concepts for deep-space users.
• Contribute to the definition and evaluation of SSI architectures and deployment scenarios.
