Job summary

The Hague-based WLG is seeking a software development engineer to deliver gap capability work for integrated command and control systems. You’ll modernise existing software while delivering new features in a balanced mix of build and maintenance tasks.

The role focuses on server-side Java and Python, data schemas, SQL and Linux deployments with Podman or Docker, plus frontend work in Angular or React. It’s an on-site position with an established engineering team in The Hague.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Java, Python and SQL.
• Comfort with Git, CI/CD pipelines and automated tests.
• Linux experience with container engines (Podman/Docker).
• Production Angular or React web apps experience.
• Ability to improve legacy codebases.

Responsibilities

We are hiring a software development engineer to deliver gap capability work packages on integrated command and control systems in The Hague. It is a genuine mix of new build and the harder, more interesting job of modernising software that has been in service for years.

What You Will Be Doing

• Developing, deploying and maintaining server side logic in Java and Python
• Designing data schemas and writing solid SQL behind them
• Working to proper engineering discipline: Git for versioning, CI and CD through Jenkins or GitLab, rigorous automated testing
• Running your work on Linux, with container engines such as Podman or Docker
• Translating UI and UX designs into responsive web applications with Angular or React
• Debugging older code bases and modernising legacy systems

What you will need

• Recent, hands on experience across Java, Python and SQL
• Comfort with Git, Jenkins or GitLab pipelines, and automated testing as a habit rather than an afterthought
• Linux, plus Podman or Docker
• Angular or React in production
• Evidence you have taken on someone else's legacy code and made it better
• Hibernate, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Ansible, Kubernetes, event streaming, Spring or command and control applications are all a bonus
