Job summary

WLG in The Hague seeks a software development engineer to deliver gap capability work packages on integrated command and control systems. The role blends new build and modernising long-running software, with an established engineering team.

You will develop server-side logic in Java and Python, design data schemas, and work with Linux containers. You'll convert UI designs into responsive apps using Angular or React, and contribute to robust testing and CI pipelines.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Java, Python and SQL.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Linux administration and container tooling.
• Production experience with Angular or React in web apps.
• Experience refactoring legacy code to improve reliability.
• Bonus familiarity with Kubernetes, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Ansible or Spring.

We are hiring a software development engineer to deliver gap capability work packages on integrated command and control systems in The Hague. It is a genuine mix of new build and the harder, more interesting job of modernising software that has been in service for years.

What You Will Be Doing

• Developing, deploying and maintaining server side logic in Java and Python
• Designing data schemas and writing solid SQL behind them
• Working to proper engineering discipline: Git for versioning, CI and CD through Jenkins or GitLab, rigorous automated testing
• Running your work on Linux, with container engines such as Podman or Docker
• Translating UI and UX designs into responsive web applications with Angular or React
• Debugging older code bases and modernising legacy systems

What you will need

• Recent, hands on experience across Java, Python and SQL
• Comfort with Git, Jenkins or GitLab pipelines, and automated testing as a habit rather than an afterthought
• Linux, plus Podman or Docker
• Angular or React in production
• Evidence you have taken on someone else's legacy code and made it better
• Hibernate, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, Ansible, Kubernetes, event streaming, Spring or command and control applications are all a bonus
