Job description

As Ships Electrical Engineer, you are responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting and optimisation of the electrical and automation systems on board one of our modern hopper dredgers.

You work on a 5-weeks-on / 5-weeks-off rotation and report to the Chief Engineer. Your work covers a wide range of systems, from PLCs and electrical drives to networks and high-voltage installations. You also ensure that electrical documentation and ship administration are kept accurate and up to date in line with Van Oord procedures and standards.

You are a hands‑on electrical professional who enjoys solving technical challenges and working independently while being part of a close-knit crew. You stay calm under pressure, take responsibility for your work and have a strong focus on safety.

In addition, you have:

  • An MBO or equivalent vocational qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a First Electrician or in a similar electrical engineering role, preferably in the maritime sector or industrial automation.
  • Solid knowledge of PLCs, electrical drive systems, networks and remote connection technologies.
  • Experience with communication, survey and navigation systems.
  • A good understanding of shipboard electrical systems and a willingness to develop your knowledge further.
  • EU work authorisation.
  • A seaman's book, valid medical certificate and STCW Basic Safety certificates are preferred.
  • An ETO licence is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Experience with ROVs, offshore cranes, cable‑lay installations or LNG‑fuelled vessels is an advantage.

Working at sea requires technical expertise, independence and teamwork. In return, Van Oord offers you the opportunity to work with advanced maritime technology and develop your career within an international organisation.

You can expect:

  • A competitive salary based on your experience and responsibilities
  • A 5-weeks-on / 5-weeks-off rotation
  • A professional and collaborative working environment on board
  • Opportunities for training, professional development and broadening your technical expertise
