Job summary

Chart Industries South Africa is seeking an experienced Service Technician to inspect, service, repair and commission rotating assemblies to Howden specifications in the industrial/mining sector.

The role involves breakdown repairs, on-site fault finding, calibration and commissioning, with a strong emphasis on safety and documentation. Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience is required, along with a fitter artisan background and vibration/laser training.

Qualifications

• Grade 12.
• Qualified Fitter Artisan.
• N4 qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience with rotating assemblies in industrial/mining/power stations.
• Vibration analysis course completed.
• Laser alignment course completed.
• Valid drivers licence.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Inspect, service and repair rotating assemblies to Howden specification.
• Perform site fault finding and repair incl. balancing and laser alignment.
• Carry out customer PM servicing and compile service reports.
• Investigate failures under breakdown conditions and mobilize resources.
• Install and align equipment, commission machinery, balance if required.
• Prepare commissioning reports and take-over certificates.
• Adhere to procedures, quality and safety standards.
• Track hours and manage teams and subcontractors.
• Ensure calibration and stock of shims/balancing weights.
• Maintain required documentation.

Howden South Africa Division is looking for an experienced Service Technician to inspect, service, repair and commission rotating assemblies to Howden specification in the Industrial and Mining sector.

What Will You Do?

• Breakdown inspection and repairs, visit sites to undertake fault finding, identify the cause of the problem, rectify on site if possible (including balancing and/or laser alignment).
• Undertake servicing in terms of customer planned maintenance contracts, check equipment, carry out required maintenance and produce a report of completed work, to comply with the Service Level Agreement.
• Investigate and repair equipment failures under breakdown or emergency conditions. This will include costing (in terms of hours and skill mix) identification and mobilizing of resources and executing the works.
• Execute the installation and alignment of equipment (including alignment), commence with commissioning of machinery (including balancing if required), check vibrations, temperatures, etc. and run the fan for a test period.
• Complete a Commissioning report and a Take Over Certificate for contract closures.
• At all times adhere to procedures, instructions, quality and safety standards.
• Tracking and managing of hours of teams and sub-contractors.
• Ensure that equipment is timeously calibrated - in accordance with procedure.
• Ensure sufficient stock of shims and assorted balancing weights: Monitor stock levels and order if required
• Upkeep of system required documentation, including QC, EHS, vehicle log sheets and time keeping.

Your Experience Should Be...

• Grade 12
• Qualified Fitter Artisan
• N4 Qualification will be an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years post qualification experience of working with rotating assemblies in an industrial/mining/power station environment
