Job summary

Fugro-Geoteam AS in the Netherlands seeks a Senior Test Engineer to lead testing of next-generation uncrewed surface vessels. You will oversee FATs, integration testing, harbour acceptance and commissioning, coordinating with Production, Engineering, Project Management and suppliers to ensure safe, reliable mission readiness.

Qualifications

• You must have hands-on experience in vessel testing, commissioning, field service or shipyard integration.
• At least seven years of practical experience in a related technical environment.
• Strong knowledge of vessel systems, USV technology and related automation.
• Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and root-cause analysis.
• Familiarity with QA/QC, configuration control and class or statutory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review requirements, FAT evidence, acceptance criteria, and test procedures before tests.
• Provide technical leadership during FAT, integration, harbour acceptance and commissioning tests.
• Configure vessel and mission systems and support calibration and test equipment.
• Lead fault finding across mechanical, electrical, automation and software areas.
• Document data, ensure correct evidence in TestRail and maintain configurations.
• Advise management on manuals, maintenance tasks and commissioning support.
• Coach Test Engineers and share lessons learned.

As Senior Test Engineer, you ensure vessel systems, mission equipment, automation, software and integration interfaces are tested safely and effectively before release for operation.In this hands-on technical leadership role, you support the full testing lifecycle, from FATs and integration testing to harbour acceptance testing and commissioning activities. Working closely with Production, Engineering, Project Management and suppliers, you provide technical expertise, troubleshoot complex issues and help deliver reliable, mission-ready USVs.If you enjoy structured testing, technical problem-solving and working with advanced maritime technology, this is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the future of uncrewed vessel operations.**Your role and responsibilities:*** You review technical requirements, supplier FAT evidence, acceptance criteria, test procedures and prerequisites before test execution starts;* You support and provide technical leadership during component FAT, integration testing, harbour acceptance testing and assigned commissioning or SAT activities;* You configure vessel and mission systems, support calibration and technical test equipment, and ensure objective evidence is captured correctly in TestRail;* You lead or support fault finding across mechanical, electrical, automation, software, communication and cross-system integration issues;* You reproduce faults, collect data, support root-cause analysis and verify technical closure through controlled retesting;* You maintain accurate configuration, software, parameter and calibration information within your assigned scope;* You provide technical input to Project Management, Fleet and technical owners for manuals, troubleshooting, maintenance tasks, spares, tools and commissioning support;* You coach Test Engineers and assigned specialists, improve standard test methods and help carry lessons learned into future vessels.**Your track record:*** You bring HBO / Bachelor level of working and thinking in a relevant maritime or technical discipline, or an MBO 4 background combined with substantial practical experience;* You have at least seven years of hands-on experience in vessel testing, commissioning, field service, shipyard integration or a comparable technical environment;* You have strong practical knowledge of integrated vessel systems, USV technology, automation, software, communications and technical interfaces;* You are confident in troubleshooting complex technical issues and separating symptoms from root causes;* You understand the importance of configuration control, calibration, test evidence, QA/QC, QHSSE and class or statutory requirements;* You are comfortable giving functional technical guidance to engineers, technicians and specialists without taking over line-management or test execution ownership;* You hold a full driving licence and are willing to travel regularly for supplier testing, trials and commissioning support. Relevant VCA, maritime, electrical, commissioning or offshore qualifications are advantageous;* You have flexibility for international travel for supplier testing, irregular hours and occasional weekend work during critical test windows;* You have excellent English language skills.
