Job summary

Demcon in Groningen is looking for a senior software engineer to lead software architecture for complex mechatronic machines. You will define standards, select components, and translate customer specifications into scalable software solutions within a multidisciplinary team.

You’ll work with BRIX on TwinCAT 3 and Beckhoff hardware, coach other engineers, participate in testing and commissioning, and help elevate project quality and performance while safeguarding software quality.

Qualifications

• Completed HBO or WO degree in a software-related technical discipline.
• At least 10 years of experience in industrial automation, machine building or mechatronic systems.
• Extensive experience with object-oriented software development and structured software architectures.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical lead within the software domain and define software architecture, component selection, and standards.

For our location in Groningen, we are looking for a versatile, enthusiastic, and experienced senior software engineer.

About Demcon

Our business unit Demcon Industrial Systems (DIS) develops and delivers a wide variety of projects for the market of complex machinery and equipment. Projects range from partial developments and proof-of-concept setups to complete machines and end-to-end system solutions for customers across different industries. Many of our projects are at the intersection of machine control, machine vision, data science, and artificial intelligence.

What are you going to do?

As a senior software engineer, you are the technical lead within the software domain. Together with systems engineers, you define the software architecture, component selection, and technical standards for our machine control systems. You translate customer specifications into robust, maintainable, and scalable software solutions.

To achieve this, you make use of BRIX, our standardized machine control platform based on TwinCAT 3 (Structured Text) and Beckhoff hardware. You work within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with colleagues from various engineering disciplines. You bring structure to software solutions, safeguard software quality, and provide technical guidance to other Software Engineers when needed.

In addition, you are involved in testing, integration, and commissioning of machine control systems. You act as a coach and sparring partner for both fellow engineers and customers. Drawing on your experience, you help substantiate technical decisions, identify risks at an early stage, and elevate projects to a higher level of quality and performance.

What do you bring to the table?

• Completed HBO or WO degree in a software-related technical discipline;
• At least 10 years of experience in a similar role within industrial automation, machine building, or mechatronic systems;
• Extensive experience with object-oriented software development and designing structured software architectures;
• Experience with various industrial control systems in a machine-building environment;
• Experience with TwinCAT 3 and Beckhoff is preferred;
• Relevant knowledge of C#/.NET programming is considered an advantage;
• Relevant knowledge of machine safety, motion control, drives, and/or robotic control systems is considered an advantage.
