Job summary

Milence is building and evolving a cloud-native platform powering its heavy-duty transport charging network across Europe. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop and scale event-driven services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js, shaping architecture and driving technical decisions.

You will collaborate with Product, Data, Cloud, IoT and business teams to deliver robust solutions while maintaining security, performance and reliability throughout the software lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software engineering, backend or platform development.
• Experience designing large-scale cloud-native and event-driven applications.
• Proficient in TypeScript and Node.js with strong API and microservices background.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and containerised deployments.

The job

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building and evolving the software platform that powers Milence’s heavy-duty transport charging network. You will develop cloud-native, event-driven systems that connect charging infrastructure, customers, operations and business processes.

Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering you will work closely with Product and Engineering teams to deliver scalable and reliable software solutions that enhance the customer experience and support Milence's continued growth across Europe. In addition, you will contribute to architectural decisions, drive engineering excellence and support the continuous improvement of our platform and engineering practices.

What You Will Do

• You will design, develop and enhance event-driven services, APIs and distributed applications using TypeScript, Node.js and cloud-native technologies.
• You will contribute to solution architecture, software design and technical decision-making, translating business and platform requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
• You will design databases, optimise data models and data flows, and ensure applications meet security, performance and reliability requirements throughout the software lifecycle.
• You will support the development of technical solutions that improve the customer experience and help Milence maintain its position as a market leader in heavy-duty charging infrastructure.
• You will investigate complex software and platform issues, perform root-cause analysis and implement structural improvements that strengthen system resilience and reduce operational risk.
• You will collaborate with Product, Data, Cloud, IoT and business teams to deliver integrated solutions while contributing to engineering standards, technical roadmaps, code quality practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Who Are We Looking For

• You have 6+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, backend engineering or platform development roles.
• You hold a bachelor's or master's degree, or equivalent working and thinking level, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
• You have proven experience designing and implementing large-scale cloud-native and event-driven applications.
• You have expert-level proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js and strong experience with API development, microservices and distributed systems.
• You bring experience contributing to software architecture decisions and leading complex technical implementations.
• You have experience working with Azure, AWS or GCP cloud platforms, as well as Docker, Kubernetes and containerised deployments.
• You possess strong knowledge of database design, query optimisation, security principles and operational resilience.
• You have experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring and Infrastructure as Code.
• You have working knowledge of React or comparable front-end technologies.
• You demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills and can effectively identify root causes and develop sustainable solutions.
• You are comfortable providing technical leadership, mentoring colleagues and influencing technical decisions without formal people management responsibility.
• You have excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills and can communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• You balance delivery priorities with software quality, system reliability and long-term maintainability.
• You have a strong product mindset and apply technical decisions through the lens of customer value and business impact.
• You are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced scale-up environment and take ownership and accountability for technical outcomes.
