In this role, the Senior Power Systems Engineer will be involved in designing, building, configuring, testing, and delivering systems all while working closely with other driven engineers and with our customers using AspenTech's Digital Grid Management software. Specifically, you will be working on the modelling side, managing the mapping, import, and validation data from Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to ensure accurate distribution network models.
Working from company and customer sites as required, the successful applicant will contribute to project delivery excellence in support of utility customers in the energy distribution industries.
Job Description
- Work with utility customers to extract GIS data and use DGM tools to import this data into the system to create a functional grid model and take ownership of maintaining the network model.
- Support with configuring, providing data for advanced ADMS applications such as Power Flow, Fault Location Isolation & Service Restoration.
- Evaluate contract specifications and define project requirements.
- Communicate detailed requirements to internal departments as needed.
- Work directly with customers and remote engineering team members to understand requirements and communicate project plans.
- Perform customer training and consult on power system modelling to ensure the effective use and maintenance of a customer's power system applications.
- Assist in creating project and product documentation as needed.
- Perform unit testing and tuning to ensure power system applications will meet customer and industry requirements.
- Support live customer systems using knowledge of power systems and application functionality with clear, logical thought processes.
- Assist in creating training materials and project documentation as needed.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry standards and trends.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelors or Master's degree in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation and Computer Science, or equivalent years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experienced project implementation or operational experience, preferably in the utility industry.
- Experience with electrical utility control systems (SCADA, DMS, DERMS) or experience working in utility operations or engineering support
- Experience with network modelling: GIS maintenance, administration, and data entry
- Database and data structure knowledge and experience (SQL, XML, Mongo, GIS)
