Job summary

TNO, based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, is building a state-of-the-art pilot line for InP photonic chips. As Senior Process Engineer Plasma, you will develop, optimize and manage plasma processes for wafer-scale manufacturing, focusing on SiO2/SiN deposition, dry etching of InP, GaAs and GaN.

You will collaborate with R&D, equipment and QA teams to drive stable production, improve yield and introduce new technologies into the pilot line, while mentoring junior engineers in a cleanroom

Qualifications

• PhD/MSc/BSc in physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of semiconductor process engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in dry etching of III/V semiconductor materials such as InP, GaAs, or GaN.
• Leadership and mentoring experience; coaching junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, and improve plasma processes for 6-inch InP wafers.
• Analyze process data, perform root cause analyses, and apply SPC, FMEA, and DoE.
• Support operators and technicians with process issues to ensure smooth wafer manufacturing.
• Troubleshoot disruptions and ensure process stability and quality.
• Lead improvement projects and introduce new plasma tools and processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Equipment, QA) and report progress to management.
• Create and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and best practices.
• Conduct audits and quality checks to ensure compliance and reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers, act as sparring partner for cluster leads, and represent process engineering.
