Job summary

SMART Photonics in the Netherlands seeks a Principal Scientist to join our Technical Competence Centre and report to the CTO. You will translate market insights into R&D goals and ensure our work aligns with the product roadmap.

You will lead cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Operations and Commerce, represent the company at major photonics events, and mentor the R&D team to deliver cutting-edge integrated photonic chips.

Qualifications

• PhD in Photonics with deep industry insight.
• Proven ability to align research with market needs.
• Experience communicating across levels and functions.

Responsibilities

• Connect research capabilities with product development needs.
• Align with global partners and customers during events and remote interactions.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations and Commerce on key projects.
• Develop, mentor, and expand R&D competencies with the Manager R&D.
• Lead forward-looking company-sponsored R&D initiatives.
• Drive technical assessments for new business proposals.
• Follow latest conferences and papers, representing us at ECOC, OFC and CIOE.
