Job summary

Monks is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to support our North American region from Culver City, CA. The role focuses on high-volume commercial contract negotiation and practical legal guidance for internal and external stakeholders.

The position collaborates with account and growth teams, commercial finance, content and technology units, and data/privacy experts to enable growth while managing legal risks. Hybrid work and RTO policies apply.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; NY/CA preferred with in-house counsel registration in NY required.
• 4–6 years of professional legal experience, including in-house and/or major law firm experience with emphasis on commercial contracts.
• Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and independently manage a high-volume workload in fast-paced environments.
• Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.
• Excellent commercial judgment with a strategic mindset.
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into pragmatic business advice.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience managing legal teams or supervising attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a high-volume of commercial contracts in North America, including MSAs, SOWs, licensing, and production agreements.
• Collaborate with commercial finance and business teams to respond to RFPs/RFIs and support client pitches.
• Evaluate legal risks and provide strategic, practical advice to business stakeholders.
• Advise on IP, rights of publicity, and other clearance matters during the production lifecycle.
• Ensure operations align with global standards and policies.
• Develop standardized contract templates and tools to improve efficiency.
• Stay updated on legal developments and adjust internal policies accordingly.
• Advise on litigation as needed with external counsel.
• Coordinate with teams across regions to maintain standardized practices.
