Job description

Systems Engineer - Help us build the system and device controls that the world can rely on.

About Priva

Located between Rotterdam and The Hague, in the heart of the world’s leading greenhouse region, lies Westland, home to Priva’s modern campus in De Lier. This innovative region has been the foundation of our family‑owned company since the 1950s.

What started as a hardware business has grown into a global leader in horticulture and building automation. Today, Priva develops advanced hardware, software, and digital services for climate control, energy efficiency, and water optimization. Our solutions support horticulture, indoor and city farming, as well as offices, hotels, hospitals, and retail environments worldwide. Our next ambition? Becoming a leading digital service provider with “Climate as a Service” solutions that help customers operate more sustainably.

With over 600 colleagues, 16 international offices, and more than 400 installation partners, we deliver smart, sustainable solutions in over 100 countries.

If you want your work to have impact on sustainability, food security, and the way cities grow, then this is where you belong.

Why this role matters

At Priva, we are building the next generation of IoT‑enabled building automation systems: cloud‑connected, security‑first, and designed for long‑term reliability. As a Senior Requirements Engineer (Systems Engineering / IoT / Cloud), you play a key role in shaping how complex systems are defined, validated, and maintained over their full lifecycle.

You will work on an innovative platform combining embedded systems, edge gateways, and cloud services, ensuring buildings operate safely and efficiently for 10+ years with minimal maintenance.

Your work in requirements engineering and systems engineering ensures clarity, traceability, and quality across hardware and software domains. Your work will directly impact the safety, compliance, and long‑term success of our products.

Your role

As a Systems Engineer, you lead the translation of stakeholder needs into clear, structured, and testable requirements. You operate at the heart of our systems engineering process, working closely with product, hardware, software, and QA teams.

You ensure that requirements are consistent, traceable, verifiable, and support the long‑term maintainability of our solutions.

What you’ll do
  • Capture stakeholder needs and translates them into clear, testable requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Build and maintain a structured requirements hierarchy aligned with systems engineering principles
  • Ensure end‑to‑end traceability from system requirements to implementation and release artifacts
  • Manage bidirectional traceability to support impact analysis (changes, defects, incidents)
  • Facilitate requirements workshops, reviews, and stakeholder alignment
  • Apply risk‑based thinking (e.g. FMEA) to identify failure scenarios
  • Define and support Verification & Validation (V&V) strategies
  • Maintain versioning, baselining, and change control in line with audit and compliance standards
  • Ensure requirements are accessible, maintainable, and usable across teams

  • Strong expertise in writing clear, unambiguous, and testable requirements
  • Experience working across hardware, embedded systems, and software teams
  • Proven experience with requirements management and traceability
  • Experience with V‑model, lifecycle management, and V&V processes

  • Experience with baselining, versioning, and change control
  • Comfortable facilitating workshops and aligning stakeholders
  • Experience in IoT, embedded systems, or building automation
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, KNX
