Trustoo in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Developer with a strong frontend focus (React.js and Next.js) to own the consumer marketplace experience used by thousands daily.
You will collaborate with Product, Design and Data teams to ship high-quality frontend features, optimize UX, performance and scalability, and contribute to backend work in CakePHP when needed.
Are you an experienced full-stack developer with a strong focus on frontend development? Do you enjoy building fast, intuitive consumer products with React.js and Next.js? And are you looking for a senior role where you can take ownership of the experience used by hundreds of thousands of consumers?
Have you ever searched online for a painter, moving company, or accountant? Finding the right local professional can still be surprisingly difficult.
That’s why we started Trustoo in 2019. Trustoo is the online marketplace for local services, helping consumers easily find and compare the best local professionals. Think Booking.com or Tripadvisor, but for local services.
Today, Trustoo connects consumers with more than 300,000 local businesses across the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Spain. Our team of 80+ colleagues is continuously improving and scaling the platform.
Pieter, co-founder: “The marketplace experience is at the heart of Trustoo. Every day, thousands of consumers use our platform to find the right professional. Making that journey faster, easier and more effective directly impacts both our customers and our growth.”
As a Senior Full-Stack Developer in our Marketplace Squad, you will have a strong focus on the demand side of our marketplace: everything consumers experience from the moment they land on Trustoo until they find, compare and connect with the right professional.
You’ll work on high-impact parts of the product such as search, category and location pages, request flows, matching experiences, provider listings, messaging, conversion funnels and experimentation.
Although this is a full-stack role, the emphasis is on building high-quality frontend experiences in React.js and Next.js. You’ll also work on the underlying APIs and backend logic in CakePHP whenever needed.
We’re looking for someone who combines strong engineering skills with product thinking. Someone who cares about UX, performance and conversion, challenges solutions when they can be better, and is comfortable owning projects from idea to production.
You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, analysts and marketers. Because product and engineering are fully in-house, we can experiment quickly, measure what works and continuously improve the marketplace.
Front-end: React.js, Next.js, JavaScript
Back-end: PHP, CakePHP
Cloud infrastructure: AWS
Version control: GitHub
AI-assisted development: Cursor, Claude, OpenAI, Gemini and other modern development tools
Engineering practices: code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD and clean code principles
We actively embrace AI-assisted development to help engineers move faster and improve quality, but great engineering judgment, product thinking and ownership remain the foundation.
Build and improve the consumer-facing marketplace experience on Trustoo
Develop high-quality React.js and Next.js applications and components
Improve key journeys such as search, provider discovery, request flows, matching and comparison
Build experiments and A/B tests to improve conversion and user experience
Work on performance, responsiveness and scalability across web and mobile
Develop and maintain APIs and backend services in CakePHP where needed
Translate product and design concepts into robust, production-ready solutions
Use AI-assisted development tools to increase development speed and quality
Take ownership of projects from technical design through implementation, testing and release
Work closely with Product, Design, Data and Marketing to continuously improve the marketplace
You’ll start with the daily stand-up with your Marketplace Squad colleagues. Together with Product and Design, you’ll work on the highest-impact improvements to the consumer marketplace.
One week you might be rebuilding part of the provider comparison experience in Next.js. The next, you could be improving the request funnel, running an A/B test, optimising page performance or designing the frontend architecture for a new marketplace feature.
You’ll have significant freedom in how solutions are designed and implemented. We expect senior developers to challenge ideas, identify opportunities and help determine the best technical approach rather than simply implementing predefined tickets.
With our open culture, direct access to founders and relatively small company size, decisions are made quickly and you can see the impact of what you build.
Every week, we close together as a company by reviewing progress, celebrating milestones and sharing results.
