Job summary

Waving, a rapidly growing startup in Amsterdam, is seeking a full-time Senior Data Scientist to lead end-to-end data handling and build robust services for protecting critical infrastructure. You will work with real-world data, build detection models, and closely collaborate with the CTO and product team to shape the company’s products.

About the role we’re looking for

We’re looking for a full‑time Senior Data Scientist in Amsterdam to own Waving’s data handling end‑to‑end, building robust services that perform in protecting critical infrastructure in real‑world settings. Working hands‑on with real‑world sensing data, build and validate detection models, and help translate experiments into reliable performance in operational environments such as security control rooms – prioritising what matters and driving execution in data science. This is a highly pivotal role, side‑by‑side with our CTO, Senior Backend Engineer and Senior Product Manager to turn our current PoCs into Waving’s near‑future highly scalable product: solving real customer problems and delivering real customer value.

Who we’re looking for

• Proven experience in leading data science, analysing and cleaning large‑scale sensing datasets, creating repeatable pipelines
• 5+ years professional experience using machine learning and data analysis tools.
• 5+ years professional experience with Python
• At least a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics
• Experience in designing experiments and evaluation methodologies, defining metrics, and reporting results with documentation
• Develop, test, and improve models for detection and classification, working closely with engineering to deploy models and iterate based on field performance
• Build lightweight tooling to visualise data, debug edge cases, and accelerate iteration
• Nice to haves: familiarity with signal processing (time‑series, filtering, FFT, feature extraction), wireless communication, or RF signals. Experience working in a cloud environment. Experience in the security or technology sector is a valuable asset
