Job summary

Riverflex is seeking a senior Data Engineer for a freelance interim role in Amsterdam. You will own the data platform, model data on BigQuery with dbt, and evolve pipelines on Google Cloud while collaborating directly with marketing, digital and analytics teams.

You will lead data architecture decisions, mentor peers, and ensure production-grade delivery with CI/CD and IaC. Fluency in English and EU-work eligibility are expected for this role.

Qualifications

• Substantial commercial experience as a data engineer with a track record of owning a production data platform.
• Deep hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform, and BigQuery in particular.
• Strong data modelling skills with dbt.
• Confident with Python and advanced SQL.
• Experience with workflow orchestration (Airflow, Cloud Composer or equivalent) and modern engineering practice — version control, CI/CD, infrastructure as code.
• Practical experience working with digital analytics data, particularly Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager.
• Able to work independently with business stakeholders and translate commercial questions into technical solutions.
• Eligible to work in the EU and able to contract on a freelance basis.

Responsibilities

• Data modelling and warehousing: design, build and maintain data models using BigQuery and dbt; keep the modelling layer clean and scalable.
• Platform and pipelines: own and evolve the data engineering architecture on Google Cloud Platform; build and optimise ingestion and transformation pipelines with orchestration and CI/CD.
• Digital and marketing data: integrate and model digital analytics data so it is usable for reporting and activation; work with marketing and digital teams.
• Machine learning enablement: support deployment and operation of ML models, getting models into production and keeping them there.
• Technical leadership: set engineering standards and mentor colleagues.
