Job summary

Catawiki is seeking a Backend Engineer to join its agile teams in Amsterdam. You will own building scalable microservices across Demand, Supply, or Fulfilment, contributing to search, discovery, bidding, and logistics capabilities.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, collaboration with product designers and frontend/backend colleagues, and ongoing process improvements. We value strong OO design, 7+ years of experience, and a growth mindset.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software development experience with OO programming.
• 3+ years in customer-facing product environments such as e-commerce or SaaS.
• Backend design, deployment, and high availability focus.
• Solid understanding of API design, SQL and relational DBs.
• Strong English communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive, initiative-taking and growth-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve scalable microservices.
• Own quality, resilience and maintainability of services.
• Collaborate with designers, product owners and engineers to ship innovations.
• Identify process improvements to increase efficiency.
• Document and promote development best practices.
• Fix bugs and refactor when needed to keep the product reliable.
• Learn and experiment with new technologies during Technical Week.
