Job summary

Pleo is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Bank Infrastructure team in Amsterdam. You will build and maintain the payment rails powering money movement, integrating with banks and partners to ensure accurate, scalable transfers.

The role focuses on reliability, observability, and high-availability distributed systems, with collaboration across compliance, finance operations, and product. Hybrid and fully remote options are available, with a strong engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building payment integrations with banks.
• End-to-end understanding of payment flows: initiation, routing, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Experience operating highly available, resilient distributed systems with good observability.
• Server-side development expertise with Kotlin/Java, and microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain integrations with banks and payment partners.
• Own reliability and correctness of inbound/outbound payment flows.
• Architect resilient systems for outages and edge cases in financial messaging.
• Lead observability improvements and drive operational excellence across rails.
• Mentor engineers and participate in code reviews; collaborate with compliance and product.
