Job summary

Adyen is seeking an experienced engineering leader to guide a team of 7–8 backend engineers in the Financial Platform in Amsterdam. You will own 1:1s, performance management and hiring, and shape the team’s growth and roadmap.

You’ll oversee system design across a Java/Spring Boot stack, REST APIs, and PostgreSQL, balancing new development with modernization while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams.
• Senior backend engineering experience with distributed systems.
• Comfortable in fast-moving, less-structured environments and able to lead with empathy.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 7–8 backend engineers. Own 1:1s, performance management and hiring.
• Understand the platform and stakeholders; define where changes are needed and build the plan.
• Guide system design and architecture; set engineering principles for the team (Java, Spring Boot, REST, SQL).
• Balance new development with modernization of established systems in a critical area.
• Provide clear purpose and foster a culture where engineers grow and stay motivated.
• Collaborate with Product Manager and other teams reliant on the platform.
