About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Payments and Onboarding team, you will build and maintain services that ensure a seamless and reliable experience for our users. You will join a cross‑functional team of engineers, designers, and product managers who value ownership and close collaboration.

This is a hybrid role. You are expected to be present in the Amsterdam office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with flexibility for remote work on other days.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop our Typescript/Node.js backend applications in close collaboration with your team and stakeholders, participating in all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
  • Ensure stability and scalability of our services by consistently applying clean architecture and industry best practices.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Deploy and monitor the health of your applications in production, debugging and mitigating issues as they arise, and communicate with stakeholders to align priorities and inform them of progress.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional experience in developing distributed backend applications.
  • Strong ability to work independently, fluent in Typescript/Node.js and familiar with best practices, able to implement changes independently while meeting architecture guidelines and quality expectations.
  • Passion for technology and software engineering, with a drive to continuously improve.
  • Strong user centricity – demonstrated ability to identify and truly grasp user problems, building effective and scalable solutions.
  • Critical thinking – observability mindset, strong ability to reflect on own and team performance, data‑driven approach.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a proactive approach to teamwork.
Bonus Points
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Pub/Sub, Firestore, etc.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Experience with payments domain.
