Job summary

HEMA in Amsterdam is seeking a Security Engineer to strengthen digital defenses across cloud and infrastructure. You will lead security assessments, design automation, and act as escalation point for alerts.

The role requires a degree in IT/cybersecurity, hands-on cloud experience (AWS or Azure), knowledge of OWASP Top 10, and experience with SIEM Microsoft Sentinel. We offer a competitive salary, 30 vacation days, 8% holiday pay, up to 14% bonus, travel allowance, pension, and staff discounts.

• Hands-on security engineering experience.
• Strong analytical, process-driven mindset.

Responsibilities

• Act as the escalation point for critical security alerts, driving them to resolution with the relevant stakeholders.
• Strengthen our security posture by identifying risks and implementing structural, scalable solutions.
• Coach and support less experienced colleagues.
• Bring ideas to the table that make our security processes smarter, leaner, and more automated.

You’re a structured, process-driven security professional with a solutions-oriented mindset – you don’t stop at spotting a problem; you drive it to closure. You’re a strong, persistent communicator who knows how to manage stakeholders and stays clear and confident when needed. In addition, you bring:

• A completed degree in IT, cybersecurity, or a related field, backed by several years of hands-on experience as a security engineer.
• Strong analytical skills and a structured, process-driven way of working.
• Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform, such as AWS or Azure.
• A solid grasp of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routing protocols, VLANs, and networking services (SFTP, SMTP).
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python or Go.
• Knowledge of common web application vulnerabilities like the OWASP Top 10.
• Experience with a SIEM platform like Microsoft Sentinel.
• Proficiency in Dutch and English.
• Nice to have: experience with no-code automation platforms such as Tines and n8n.
