Job summary

Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is seeking a Science Policy Advisor within the Office of Strategy and Policy. The role focuses on leading science-based policy initiatives, guiding AI and data science efforts, and coordinating international collaboration to strengthen CWC implementation.

The post requires an advanced STEM degree, 10+ years in a STEM setting with policy experience, and fluency in English with a preference for additional official language knowledge.

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) field, preferably in the physical or life sciences.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a STEM field, with at least 5 years providing science-based policy advice in an international context.
• Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of an additional official language is desirable.
• Experience in disarmament, arms control and/or non-proliferation and managing science-based international programs.

Responsibilities

• Science Policy Leadership and Strategic Advice to the Director-General and State Parties, including governance of AI and data science policy.
• Lead the Organisation’s Scientific Activities and coordinate SAB-related meetings and workshops.
• Foster Partnerships with Member States, international organisations and academia to advance science policy and technology governance.
• Guide strategic direction on cross-disciplinary scientific issues impacting chemical safety and security under the CWC.
