Job summary

The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies (HCSS) Datalab internship offers an exciting entry point for aspiring data scientists. Based in The Hague, it provides hands-on experience with real-world policy research under supervision, with a monthly stipend and an in-person work setup.

Candidates should have a strong quantitative background, fluency in Python, and excellent communication in English. Enrolment as a university student for the entire internship is required, with a 6-month minimum

Qualifications

• Affinity with computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, econometrics, or a related field
• Fluency in Python
• Very good written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn

• Structured working style and the ability to document your work clearly

Responsibilities

• Conduct quantitative research in support of policy analysis
• Collect, clean, analyze, and visualize structured and unstructured data
• Develop interactive platforms and analytical tools
• Build and evaluate statistical, machine learning, or generative models
• Design automated data-cleaning and AI-driven pipelines
• Contribute to policy reports and evidence-based recommendations
