Job description

Join to apply for the Retailer1 Financial Data Analyst role at bol

How do you make our customers happy?

By ensuring every euro flows exactly where it should, when it should. As the Retailer1 Financial Data Analyst, you’ll transform complex financial data into robust, automated solutions that safeguard the integrity of our retail operations. With millions of annual transactions across purchasing, vendor payments, and profitability flows, your analytical frameworks ensure 13.7 million customers and 47,000 seller partners can rest assured that we process their payments accurately. You’re the mastermind behind our financial reliability – building systems so solid that nobody even suspects the world of complexity beneath the surface.

The biggest challenge

Creating and implementing scalable analytics in an environment where traditional retail meets vast platform dynamics. How can you build clear and concise transaction dashboards? When can you automate checks, and when should you maintain human oversight? In this role, you’ll develop frameworks robust enough to catch anomalies before they cascade, flexible enough to adapt as business models evolve, and clear enough to keep stakeholders informed at a glance.

What you'll do as the Retailer 1 Financial Data Analyst

First, some context: Retailer1 refers to our own retail operation, which is by far the largest of the 47,000+ sellers on our platform ecosystem. You’ll join the Retailer1 product and tech team as the analytical conscience of our financial operations, working closely with the Financial Process Analyst and stakeholders across Retail Operations, Finance, and Product. Your mission: build and maintain a data infrastructure that keeps our financial engine humming 24/7/365. Success calls for a deep understanding of bol’s financial flows – from purchasing to payments and profitability. You’ll identify where analytics can strengthen our performance and reliability, design monitoring systems that flag issues before they become problems, create reconciliation frameworks that scale with growth, and build dashboards that provide actionable clarity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable, automated analytics solutions that bolster financial reliability
  • Develop comprehensive dashboards to monitor purchasing, payments, vendor allowances, and profitability
  • Create frameworks that support reconciliation, compliance, and operational accuracy
  • Lead end-to-end data initiatives that improve financial process stability
  • Advise stakeholders on data-driven improvements to financial flows
  • Build and maintain critical financial data pipelines and monitoring systems
  • Champion data-driven reliability practices across Retailer1 teams
Why you can make a difference

You combine proven analytical expertise with a strong sense of financial responsibility. With a relevant master’s degree and 3+ years of experience in financial data analytics, you understand how to build systems that scale and sustain. You take a structured, clear approach to problems and are fluent in SQL, dashboard development, and data modeling. You shine at translating technical solutions into business value, communicating insights that demonstrably improve our financial reliability. You opt for a collaborative approach and can navigate complex stakeholder landscapes while maintaining focus on what matters: accuracy, compliance, and trust.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you
  • Insights isolationist: You’re keen to generate insights but would rather not be burdened with turning those insights into systems
  • Compliance cynic: Regulations are roadblocks rather than foundations of trust
  • Solo star: You prefer personal glory to dynamic cross‑functional collaboration
  • Reliability enhancer: You want to build systems that ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and trust at scale
  • Automation advocate: You love designing solutions that eliminate manual work while improving consistency
  • Collaboration champion: You thrive on co‑creating solutions with Finance, Retail, and Tech teams
Where you'll work

You’ll join one of the leading retail tech platforms in the Netherlands and Belgium, where innovation has been our driving force since 1999. Here, 2,900 colleagues collaborate to serve 13.7 million customers and support 47,000 business partners. Our environment combines the infectious energy of a scale‑up with the measurable impact of a market leader – we move quickly, learn continuously, and never stop asking “what if?” The culture is ambitious, collaborative, and refreshingly human. We set challenging goals, help each other to achieve them, and use humor as a secret weapon against setbacks. You’ll work alongside talented colleagues who share your passion for solving complex puzzles at scale. Ready to build the analytical foundation for a financially sound future? Team up and help make our financial reliability invisible – and indisputable.
