Job summary

JetBrains is seeking a Staff/Lead Software Developer to shape AI-powered workflows for CLion and C++ development. You will prototype and implement agent-enabled features, design integration architectures, and benchmark AI-assisted workflows to evolve IDE capabilities.

You will collaborate with product, ML, QA, and engineering teams to steer the AI strategy for the C++ ecosystem while delivering practical, high-impact engineering solutions.

Qualifications

• Significant software engineering experience in senior technical roles (Staff/Principal Engineer or equivalent).
• Strong experience with Kotlin, Java, or other JVM technologies or ability to quickly adapt to a JVM codebase.
• Experience building AI-powered products, developer tools, coding assistants, agents, or LLM-based workflows.
• Solid understanding of modern coding agents: tool calling, context management, MCP, evaluation techniques.
• Proven track record shaping technical direction in ambiguous, evolving areas.
• Strong product instincts and the ability to balance innovation with delivery.
• Excellent communication and influential capabilities without formal authority.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver AI-powered features for CLion and C++ development workflows.
• Design architecture for AI integrations, agent tools, and C++-specific capabilities.
• Build benchmarks and evaluation frameworks for AI-assisted C++ development.
• Prototype and validate new AI workflows including debugging, code understanding, refactoring, and navigation.
• Collaborate with product managers, ML engineers, QA engineers, stakeholders, and senior developers on roadmap.
• Work with JetBrains AI, ML, and product teams to define the AI strategy for the C++ ecosystem.
• Evaluate and prioritize AI initiatives, proposing ideas aligned with JetBrains strategy.
• Contribute hands-on to technical design, software architecture, and implementation in a large codebase.
• Define a technical roadmap for AI agent and tool integrations in C++ workflows.
• Build trust and alignment across C++ ecosystem, AI, Product, QA, and ML teams.
