Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Team Lead for the Android core product in a fully distributed, remote setup. You will own features end-to-end, write and review code, and drive the team to deliver reliable functionality with a focus on Android UI/UX.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with Design and Engineering, and push for automated verification and faster releases. This hands-on leadership role requires strong Kotlin expertise and a track record of shipping high-impact features.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with team leadership and hands-on coding.
• Strong Kotlin and Android architecture skills.
• Experience shipping long-running background work.
• Tests-first mindset and test strategy.
• Proven impact delivering usable features.
• Ability to work with AI agents in product workflows.
• Product design intuition and user empathy for Android UI.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design to release.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests and provide actionable feedback.
• Unblock the team and proactively address blockers.
• Coordinate version control and ensure consistent code across the team.
• Guide the team on when to evolve processes and tooling.
• Reduce manual intervention to speed up releases.
• Address recurring problems by adjusting underlying setup.
• Shift verification left with automated checks for QA builds.
• Plan sprints to focus on decisions still needed by the team.
• Engage with Product, Design, and Engineering early to align constraints.
• Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly QA builds.
• Mentor junior engineers and create learning opportunities.
