Job description

Join Our Team!

We are looking for a new team member, a Quantum Optics Engineer, to join our customer fulfillment team to focus on producing our Quantum optics/Quantum network devices for our growing international customer base and a variety of research and development projects. Electrical and Software engineers are on board to support you and use your feedback to make the tools you need to get the job done.

Are you passionate about quantum optics, photonics, and technology, and do you want to contribute to new ground‑breaking tech? Do you work independently, love working hands‑on, and adapt easily to rapidly changing priorities? Above all, are you a team player and excited to work in a mixed team of hardware engineers, software engineers, and scientists?

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for producing our quantum devices, which include not just assembling the devices but bringing the devices to a fully functional state, ready to ship to the customer. You’ll be characterizing individual optical components – often at the quantum level – and integrating them into complex setups, requiring full system characterization. Think of basic scripting for running long‑term measurement setups (programmatically and automatically). You’ll be responsible for learning the assembly process, characterization steps, and configuration possibilities. Once you’ve built expertise, you’ll have some ownership of improving these processes.

Your role also entails on‑site customer work – i.e., travel. Once comfortable with all the complexities of quantum network devices, you’ll be responsible for on‑site installations and the deployment and configuration of the quantum network. These locations may include secure data centers, backbone telecom facilities, government installations, etc.

As our quantum devices are installed around the world, you’ll use your particular expertise to assist the team in diagnostics of issues, and potentially field servicing of technical equipment. Be ready to travel – maybe to the far corners of the world – for field service visits, installations, and training.

Your role also entails supporting existing customers. Being able to collaborate with customers’ staff and supporting them in their use cases is important. That means being comfortable communicating with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. You need to be comfortable with customer‑facing activities and communicate in a professional manner.

Your Profile
  • a MSc degree in physics, electrical engineering, photonics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • a valid Driving license
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to support both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Hands‑on experience in mechanical assembly
  • Hands‑on experience with optical systems, including system calibration
  • Hands‑on experience with basic Test & Measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, power meters, etc.)
  • expertise using fiber optics, photonic devices, fiber lasers, etc.
  • expertise in using and characterizing EOMs, polarization optics, and single photon detectors
  • An understanding of electronics is required to effectively work together with electrical engineers and programmers.
  • Comfortable working with hardware, schematics, and system documentation
  • Experience with Python
  • Experienced with software engineering best practices (version control (git), documentation, code reviews, etc.)
  • Experience with simple closed‑cycle cryogenic systems would be valuable
  • Experience communicating with customers or in customer‑facing activities would be valuable

We expect that the successful applicant will not satisfy all the above points, but has expertise in key areas and significant knowledge in most areas.
